@ Joeprah, lol yes they all do it seems. and meetup.com is actually pretty cool you should check it out. It allows folks with like interests to seek out each other if you will. haha and in our case we are seeking other parents with diverse family dynamics. That is really all we have time for but thus far it has been very enjoyable.

I have never heard of such a thing. Playdates for grown ups–too funny. Here I thought meetup.com or w/e was for dating or something. That Don Pablos looks like the one right by us, but wait–they all look the same don’t they?

@ Ciara: that is my problem exactly I just dont seem to click with most other moms out there…but this group has proven to be a good start. The benefit of the meetup group is that we already have the foundation of our likeness and that is a multicultural family. So that helps us relate in a lot more ways then families that are different in that area as well.

i try to converse w other moms around here, but they’re all kinda slow lol jk seriously though, they are total opposites of me and that makes it hard for me to feel comfortable. my husband has good friends he’s known for years, but he doesn’t always see them. weird how marriage does that to you though after awhile.

Meetup.com is a great concept. I just joined some groups for kayaking — not much online conversation there this time of year, but I’m hopeful.

On a separate note, I started a ‘real’ group a couple of months ago by inviting other preschool dads to bring their kids to my favorite hangout every Tuesday. At least one other dad always shows up, and on a good night there are 5 families represented. The place we go to has a big play area with an inflatable slide, gym mats, riding toys, art activities, etc., and it also has wi-fi and serves good food and beer. Can’t beat it! This weekly gathering has changed my life — that is, I feel like I have one now.

@ Reservoir Dad: ha we do enjoy each other’s company that might be why we have 5 kids. The last 7 years we have been married we haven’t any sort of friendships outside of our marriage until recently which is proving interesting and is making us feel somewhat like high school kids all over again. We have met more crazies though then we have sane folks but this meet up group is pretty awesome.

@ otter321 : thanks me to. its is nice to step out of the box every so often..we are finding we are doing that more and more these days. Nothing compares to real life interactions although internet friendships are a nice substitute and much better than no interaction at all.

@ Mocha Dad: I agree especially when you spend all day with your kids and working from home…a break with real other like minded adults is always a good thing.

I am glad you were able to meet up with some people like you. I am glad also that some people use the internet to actually meet real people in person rather than just online chatting. Good luck with your play dates.
